Mixed trend in prices of essential food commodities was witnessed in retail market, according to a survey conducted by Business Recorder here on Sunday. The survey noticed that a variation in rates of vegetable, pulses, chicken meat, sugar in open market in provincial metropolis Peshawar.
Upward trend in price of chicken meat/live chicken was continued in retail market as chicken meat is being sold at Rs178 per kilogram against the price of Rs173 per kilogram in retail market, the survey said. A dozen of farm eggs are being available at Rs110, which was selling at Rs120 per dozen. It was witnessed that butchers are openly defying the official price of cow meat in local market. Cow meat is being sold Rs400 per kilogram against the official rate of Rs300 per kilogram in local market. Mutton beef is available at Rs750 per kilogram and Rs800 per kg.
Price of sugar has also gone up at Rs64 per kilogram against the rate of Rs60 per kilogram. Gram flour (baisen) is being sold at Rs120 and Rs130 per kilogram. Prices of pulses/food grains also surged up in retail and wholesale markets. Good quality rice (sela) is being sold at Rs150 per kilogram, while same quality rice available at Rs140 per kilogram in local market. Toota rice is being sold at Rs70 and Rs80 per kilogram.
The survey further revealed that big size white channa is being available at Rs140 per kilogram, while some shopkeepers are selling same quality white channa at Rs120 per kilogram. Similarly, there is visible difference in prices dal mash as some vendors charging Rs120 per kilogram, while other Rs140 per kilogram in local market.
It further added that Dal masoor is being sold at Rs90 per kilogram while some shopkeepers are charged the commodity at Rs110 per kilogram. Likewise, Dal channa is being sold at Rs120 per kg while some charged at Rs140 per kilogram. Dal chilka (green) is being sold at Rs130 per kilogram, while dal chilka (black) available at Rs140-150 per kilogram in retail market.
A considerable difference in prices of white lobiya was noticed as some shopkeepers are charged Rs120 per kilogram while other sold at Rs100 per kilogram. Dhoti dal priced at Rs110 per kilogram and Rs120 per kilogram. Moonge is being sold at Rs100 per kilogram, while others selling at Rs110 and Rs120 per kilogram.
According the survey, prices of cooking/ghee was remained unchanged in retail market as available within range of Rs150, Rs180 and Rs200 per kilogram/litre. The survey noticed that prices of tomatoes have decreased in retail market as being sold at Rs80 per kilogram, which was selling at Rs100-120 per kilogram in the last week. Ginger is being sold at Rs240 per kilogram. Chinese garlic is available at Rs120 per kilogram, while locally produced garlic priced at Rs80 per kilogram.
Cucumber is being sold at Rs50 per kilogram, while lemon available at Rs120 per kilogram. Price of green chili has increased in retail market as available at Rs120 -150 per kilogram which was selling at Rs100 per kilogram in the previous week.
Carrots are being sold at Rs50-60 per kilogram. A bundle of radish is being sold at Rs15 and Rs20 per kilogram. Arvi is being sold at Rs80 per kilogram which was selling at Rs50 per kilogram during last week. Price of peas has also increased as available at Rs70 per kilogram against the price of Rs50 per kilogram in the last week.
Ladyfinger is being sold at Rs120 per kilogram, while some shopkeepers are charged Rs80 per kilogram. Capsicum is being sold at Rs80 per kilogram. Bringle is available at Rs50 per kilogram, while turnip available at Rs30 per kilogram. The price of cauliflower increased by Rs10 per kg to Rs50 per kg against Rs40 per kg last week; potato price increased by Rs5 per kg and is being sold at Rs30 per kg against Rs25 per kg, cabbage price registered an increase of Rs5 per kg is available at Rs40 per kg against Rs35 per kg in the last week. Prices of okra, karela, kado and other vegetables also registered increase in prices. Kareela is being sold at Rs60 per kilogram.
Apples are being sold at Rs120 and Rs150 per kilogram. Pomegranate is being sold at Rs100 per kilogram, orange at Rs80 per dozen, kinnow at Rs60 per kilogram. Guava is being sold at Rs100 per kilogram in local market.
