Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration will remove the barricades placed at different intersections leading to Red Zone next week which were erected following escalation of tension between Pakistan and India. Islamabad Chief Commissioner Amir Ali Ahmed while talking to Business Recorder said the barricades erected at D-Chawk, NADRA Chawk and Radio Pakistan Chawk will be removed next week.
"I will talk to Islamabad IGP regarding the blockage of different Chawks and these will definitely be removed next week", Ahmed said. The city police on February 27 put security of the federal capital on high alert and closed major entry and exit points to Red Zone due to possible terror attack after Pakistan Air Force (PAF) shot down two fighter jets of Indian Air Force.
Police had strengthened security across the city and especially in the Red Zone which houses Diplomatic Enclave, Prime Minister Secretariat, the Parliament House, Supreme Court of Pakistan and other government offices. Closing of different intersections to Red Zone is causing traffic jams on various roads in the adjacent areas.
Another senior police official said there is no harm in opening the intersections after de-escalation of tension between Pakistan and India but added that effective checking of vehicles passing through these intersections would continue.
The security personnel deployed at different chawks leading to Red Zone would remain highly vigilant, he told. He said overall security would be on high alert and random checks at pickets set up in various parts of the city would continue.
Meanwhile, Islamabad police, rangers and personnel of intelligence agencies have conducted joint operation at Bari Imam, adjacent areas of Chinese Embassy and Quaid-e-Azam University and detained 149 suspected persons, an official said. He said during the operation police and rangers checked 309 houses, three hotels, three schools, some shops and a factory.
