GILGIT: Special Communication Organization (SCO) has launched work on provision of mobile phone service to various remote parts of Gilgit Baltistan especially stretching along the Karakorum Highway from Shukayal to Khunjrab in view of China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project.

As part of infrastructure development project, the SCO, a mobile service provider company in GB would install 125 new mobile towers to provide coverage to maximum costumers in all districts of Gilgit Baltistan including those lying alongside the Karakorum Highway, the company’s sector commander Saqib Iqbal told APP.

So far, he said, the company had installed towers to mobile phone customers in seven areas including Gilgit city and added that the company would provide 3-G and 4-G service to all areas of Gilgit Baltistan under the new project.

Iqbal said the company was catering to the customers’ requirements on modern lines and people particularly tourists would avail the mobile phone services as they entered the limits of the GB.

He said the service would be available upto Khunjarab border of Pakistan and China and the all GB’s remote areas were being connected to the rest of the world under the new project by next month through provision of modern mobile phone services to them.
