Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has said that K-Electric's poor services have rendered the people in the city to suffer sizzling weather. This he said while talking to media just after inaugurating Pediatric Emergency Room established by Child Life Foundation at Sindh Government Hospital Korangi-5.
He said that the K-Electric has done a little to include more electricity in its system. Now, the people of this city are facing serious hardships due to prolonged power failure and load-shedding. He added that he had held a meeting with K-E management and they had assured him that no-load-shedding would be resorted to during Iftar and Saher and there would be overall reduction in the load-shedding. "But all these assurances proved to be bubble of hot air," he said and added that power failure in the city means failure of water supply. The chief minister did not rule out emergence of untoward situation if power outage continued at the on-going alarming scale.
Talking about Hesco and Sesco, the chief minister said both the companies have completely failed to serve the people of rural Sindh. "About three year ago, the Sindh government had offered to takeover both the companies [Hesco, Sesco] for their smooth, efficient and effective performance but the federal government refused. "Today they are in a shambles and they could not be made efficient even if the Sindh government is allowed to take over," he lamented.
"I know people of rural Sindh are leading a very miserable life by facing 21-hour long load-shedding," he said and urged the federal government to have pity on the people of Sindh and improve its system. "The tripping of 500 KV line is pathetic and unacceptable and still it has not been restored completely," he said. The chief minister recalled his meetings with federal water & power minister, prime minister and also talked about his letters he wrote to them against reduction in loadshedding and improvement in the supply system but "sorry to say nothing has improved and my repeated phone calls, letters and requests [for smooth supply of electricity] have fallen flat on the deaf ears," he said.
Earlier, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah said that he was working on a plan to establish Children Hospitals/wards in 10 hospitals located in different areas to cater to the growing needs of this megalopolis city of Karachi.
Syed Murad Ali Shah said that just after taking over as chief minister he had visited National Institute of Child health (NICH) where he was informed that 80,000 children were treated there every month. "Presently, there are two major child health facilities, the NICH and Civil Hospital and this Sindh Government Hospital Korangi-5 has become the third one major facility and still two more such fully equipped facilities are badly required," he said.
On this the chief minister was told that emergency wards could be established in Abbasi Shaheed Hospital and at Nagan Chorangi government hospital which would be functioning round the clock. He said that he was ready to provide funds. "There is no shortage of funds for health sector, he said and added "just he needs some dedicated and devoted doctors who serve for ailing children selflessly," he said. The chief minister also announced that 10 such children hospitals/wards would be operated on public private partnership. "This experiment has delivered successfully and even in rural areas where doctors were not ready to serve have started working there," he said.
The chief minister visited all sections of Pediatrics Emergency ward, including ICU and lauded the set up. Around 150,000 children are provided medical facility at Korangi hospital annually and now the ratio would further increase as its Child Emergency ward has further been equipped with latest medical facilities.
