Power generation through renewable energy resources stressed

KARACHI: Alternative Energy Development Board (AEDB) Chief Executive Officer Amjad Ali Awan on Thursday said that Pakistan should set its target of generating at least 30 percent of electricity from renewable resources in next five to seven years to tackle its power crisis.

Addressing as a keynote speaker at the inaugural session of Third International Wind Energy Summit-2018 organized by Energy Update in collaboration with Sindh Energy Department, he said there was no option other than to develop and expand renewable energy sector.

He said that the country had to increase its reliance on renewable energy for the power generation.

Sindh Energy Minister Imtiaz Ahmed Shaikh said that Sindh had been the host to designated wind corridor in the country between Gharo and Jhimpir.

He said that he would visit Islamabad soon to hold talks with the relevant federal authorities to resolve pending issues on 35 wind power projects.

He assured the participants that Sindh government was fully committed for resolving the long-pending issues pertaining to upcoming wind power projects.
