The Cabinet Division avoided providing detailed information to Senate Special Oversight Committee in connection with corruption cases and disciplinary actions against its officials and attached departments. The committee met with Senator Muhammad Javed Abbasi in the chair at the Parliament House Tuesday. Senator Saeed Ghani of Pakistan People's Party (PPP) raised many questions during the meeting for seeking information about corruption cases in various departments of the Cabinet Division but its Secretary Nadeem Hassan Asif said that he has no information at the moment and will provide details in the next meeting.
Senator Saeed Ghani said that the Cabinet Division should provide details of even one or two cases of corruption and of those officials who were punished on these charges during last five or ten years. The secretary said that he has no knowledge of any corruption case and he would provide a comprehensive report in the next meeting of the committee.
The secretary said that now the employees of the Cabinet Division would submit the details of their assets every year, which will be uploaded on the website of the departments.
While briefing the committee, official of Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) said that no case of corruption was registered in the department. Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) Chairman Syed Ismail Shah said that only one case of corruption surfaced and the accused has been granted bail from Islamabad High Court. He said that there is transparency in his department due to online system.
An official of National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) told the committee members that his department has taken disciplinary action against the corrupt employees and were forcefully retired; however, he did not provide details to the committee. Senator Seed Ghani asked the secretary, did the Cabinet Division take action against the head officer of the department due to his/her inefficiency. On this, the secretary stated that the Cabinet Division did not take any action against the head officer.
