Water flow in the four live rivers has increased to the tune of 1, The running water in the river Jhelum at Mangla on Tuesday was 57,500 cusecs, in the mighty Indus at Tarbela 32,500 cusecs, in river Kabul at Nowshera 25,400 cusecs and in river Chenab at Marala 18,400 cusecs. According to 29th March WAPDA water report, the Indus River System Authority was releasing 118,000 cusecs water in the sprawling network across the country for maturing the Rabi crops including wheat, grams, mustard, oil seeds, vegetables, fodder and fruit orchards besides preparing the fields for cotton sowing etc.
The report said that Punjab was supplying 47,400 cusecs water downstream the Punjnad headworks on the river Chenab to the Sindh province to meet its irrigation water needs as maximum water is being retained in the Tarbela dam on the river Indus. The Sindh Irrigation department was releasing 5470 cusecs fresh water downstream the Kotri barrage in the water deficit Indus Delta besides putting 27,500 cusecs water in the canal network in the lower Sindh. The water regulatory body has so far stored about 3.30 MAF water in the reservoirs for sowing and maturing of Kharif crops 2016-17 including cotton, paddy and sugarcane. IRSA is holding a meeting of all provinces this week to apportion water among the provinces for next six months according to their share of available water under the Water Accord among the provinces.

However, rain-thunderstorm is expected at isolated places in Kalat and Quetta divisions. Hot weather conditions are likely to prevail over Sindh, south Punjab and south Balochistan. During next 48 hours mainly dry weather is expected in most parts of the country. However, rain-thunderstorm is expected at isolated places in Quetta, Zhob, Bannu, and Malakand divisions, upper FATA, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir. Hottest places during past 24 hrs: Benazirabad, Sukkur, R.Y.Khan, Mithi 39°C, Shaheed Chhor, Rohri, Khanpur, Larkana 38°C. Lahore 34 C.
