Pakistan's textile export has declined by 8.76 percent during the first eight months of the current fiscal year to $8.363 billion in July-February 2016 against $9.166 billion for the same period of last fiscal year. According to trade figures released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics on Tuesday, raw cotton export declined to $74.427 million during July-February 2015-16 from $139.337 million from the same period of last fiscal year, reflecting a decline of 46.58 percent, cotton yarn declined to $895.841 million from $1.333 billion, which reflects a decline of 32.80 percent, while cotton cloth export declined to $1.486 billion from $1.664 billion denoting a 10.69 percent fall.
Cotton carded or combed export during July-February 2015-16 declined to $116 compared to $6.164 million during July-February 2014-15 reflecting a decline of 98.12 percent, yarn other than cotton yarn export dwindled to $23.248 million from $29.501 million, which shows a decline of 21.20 percent.
Knitwear export during the period under review decreased to $1.576 billion from $1.620 billion, bed-wear to $1.338 billion from $1.415 billion, canvas & Tarpaulin to $68 million from $96 million, art, silk & synthetic textile to $198 million from $227 million, made-up articles (excluding towels bed-wear) to $415 million from $434 million. However, export of towel during July-February 2015-16 increased to $530 million from $524 million, exports of readymade garments increased to $1.437 billion from $1.382 billion and other textile materials export to $316 million from $292 million during July-February 2015-16 when compared to the same period of last fiscal year.
The figures also reveal that textile export in February 2016 compared to February 2015 declined by 5.30 percent after exports fell to $1.022 billion from $1.080 billion. Cotton yarn export declined to $106 million in February 2016 from $171 million February 2015, cotton cloth to $183 million from $220 million, and towels to $60 million from $66 million as well as raw cotton to $717 million from $672 million. Madeup articles (excluding towels & bedwear) export fell to $48 million in February 2016 as compared to $57 million for the same month of last fiscal year. However, export of bedwear increased to $171 million from $160 million, tents, canvas & tarpaulin export to $13 million from $6 million, readymade garments export to $187 million from $174 million, art, silk & synthetic textile export to $25 million from $9 million and exports of other textile materials rose to $46 million from $22 million.
