Prices of essential kitchen items remained stable as no significant change or increase witnessed during the preceding week as compared to last week, according to survey conducted by Business Recorder here on Sunday.
According to traders in provincial capital Peshawar said that prices have unchanged despite increases supply of commodities in market, however, they said prices will go up in coming days, due low cultivation of crops in most farming areas of the province.
"A five kilograms tomato is available at Rs 250, while a five-kg onion being sold at Rs 200, registering no change in preceding week", the survey witnessed. Ginger is available at Rs 160 per kg, and garlic being sold at Rs 240 per kg. Cucumber is available at Rs 60 per kg, and lemon available at Rs 60 per kg, green chilli at Rs 80 per kg. A five kg potato is being sold at Rs 100 and Rs 120 while a five-kg cauliflower at Rs 100, and cabbage at Rs 30 per kg.
The survey showed an upward trend in some vegetable, including ladyfinger, shimla mirch and arvi, as available at Rs 140 per kg, Rs 80 per kg, and Rs 70 per kg, respectively.
Prices of pulses have remained stable in market as no visible change was witnessed in these food commodities, according to survey. It was witnessed that a bag of 49-kilogram good quality rice, being sold at Rs 6000 to Rs6500 while low quality of rice available at Rs5600/- in the wholesale market, without any significant change, during preceding week.
Similarly, a 49 kg bag of Moong is available at Rs 6600, Dal Channa at Rs 3500, Malika Masoor is being sold at Rs 5700, big channa selling at Rs 4400 to Rs 4500, red bean at Rs 4400, Dal mash green at Rs 6000, red mauwa at Rs 7000 to Rs 8000, Dal mash yellow 7400 to Rs 7200, Dotti dal at Rs 6500 to Rs 7000.
The survey further noted that prices of various brands of ghee/cooking oil remained steady, as 16-kilogram tin available with range of Rs1840 to Rs 2500, while prices of cooking oil also firm, as cane of 16-Kilogram available at Rs 2630, Rs 2300, Rs 2400 and Rs 2680.
In the survey it was notice that rates of eggs are soaring with increasing cool weather as a box containing 300 eggs, is being sold at Rs 3500, while in retail market egg is available at Rs 110 and Rs 130 per dozen. Likewise, a good weight live chicken is being sold with range of Rs 250, Rs 270 and Rs 300, while chicken meat is available at Rs 144. Cow meat is available at Rs 300, and beef available at Rs 600 per kilogram.
Vendors in provincial capital, also charging consumers with artificial rates of fresh milk, as available at Rs 60 Rs 80 and Rs 90 per kilogram, while yogurt is also being sold at Rs 80 and Rs 90 per kilogram, despite official fix rate of Rs 55 for fresh milk of one litre, and Rs 70 for one kilogram yogurt.
The prices of all varieties and range of fruits also unchanged as apple is available at Rs 100 to Rs 140, banana available at Rs 60 to Rs 80 per dozen, pomegranate is selling at Rs 150 and Rs 120 per kg, grapes available at Rs 200 per kg, persimmon being sold at Rs 60 to Rs 80 per kilogram.
