Nawaz Sharif has claimed his government is working day and night for the public welfare with "every penny is being honestly spent". The premier's claim came in a top level meeting he chaired in Model Town on Monday. He told his audience, "The national resources are a trust of the nation and every penny of the public money is being spent only on the progress and prosperity of people. The resources are being provided on priority basis for provision of basic amenities and projects implemented rapidly in the Punjab and other parts of the country to help the public. The government is trying to resolve the basic problems of people by executing mega projects."
He then went on, "The government is using the resources with honesty and transparency on the uplift and betterment of the people. Some elements have tried to stop the implementation of Kissan Package but they have been rejected by the very people in the Local Bodies' elections. The government attaches high importance to the welfare of the farming community and is providing relief to the cultivators through the historic Kissan Package."
He went on to say the Greater Iqbal Project was of historic importance and this element "should be highlighted in the construction work with attention to the provision of maximum recreational facilities to citizens". CM Shahbaz Sharif said, "People have expressed their complete confidence in the leadership of the PML-N in the first and second phase of the elections. The results have authenticated those of the 2013 general elections. The journey of progress and prosperity of the public will continue under the leadership of Premier Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and greater efforts will be made for the solution of public problems.
"The Kissan Package is being speedily implemented under the premier's leadership and provision of relief to the cultivators has been ensured. In the first phase of the Khadim-e-Punjab Rural Roads Programme, construction and rehabilitation work of more than 2,000 kilometre long roads has been completed and now in the second phase of this project, work is in progress expeditiously at a cost of billions of rupees. The project of supply of potable water to the rural population has started in the South Punjab and will be completed by the end of 2017. The government will come up to the public confidence in Premier Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and the party at any cost."
Those also present were Federal Minister for Railways Khawaja Saad Rafiq, Parliamentary Secretary on Health Khawaja Imran Nazir, Chief Secretary Khizar Hayat Gondal, the local government, communication and works and housing secretaries, the Lahore commissioner and the Punjab Information Technology Board chairman. In another event, the premier then visited the homes of party leader and Member of the National Assembly Afzal Khokhar and Member of the Punjab Assembly Saif ul Malook Khokhar to discuss the party and post-election matters.
