In a tit-for-tat move against protesting doctors of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan on Saturday announced to approach the court against them, two days after he got a contempt of court notice over a plea filed by Pakistan Medical Association. "I don't want to fight, I respect doctors," he said while during a visit to Peshawar, adding that majority of the doctors support health reforms introduced by the provincial government.
"Doctors should be held accountable for wrongdoings and praised over good work as rule of law is not possible without the concept of punishment and reward," Khan said. Imran Khan said he had not spoken against the judges and didn't commit contempt of court. The Peshawar High Court issued a contempt of court notice over Pakistan Medical Association's (PMA) application which stated that Khan had described doctors as 'mafia' during a media talk.
While addressing a function at Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital Lahore and Peshawar, PTI chief announced the establishment of hospital in port-city of Karachi. He said students had a major part in building of Shaukat Khanum Cancer Hospital for which Rs 800 million were still required.
Addressing the function, held the SKMCH Peshawar, Khan said the media had played vital role for fundraising for the hospital in Peshawar. He appealed the industrialists, investors, representatives of media and students, to donate for the SKMCH Peshawar.
Under the present structure, he said dream to develop hospitals is not come true. However, he said consultation was made with doctors' community for bringing reforms in health sector in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He said majority of doctors' community is supporting the provincial government reform agenda. But, he said there were few people, which are creating hurdles.
"We had come to power with public mandate, and accountable to them, Khan added that the Medical Teaching Institutions (MTI)-Act 2015, passed by following rules and regulations. He said they are ready to accept all demands and hear grievances of doctor's community, he however, warned they will not accept any black-mailing in this regard.
