Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has nominated senior party leader Dr Arif Alvi as its candidate for the next president.

PTI spokesperson Fawad Chaudhry confirmed the announcement in a tweet from his official Twitter account on Saturday. According to the Election Commission of Pakistan, the forthcoming presidential elections of Islamic Republic of Pakistan are to be held on September 4.

The presidential elections will be held five days prior to the expiry of the current President Mamnoon Hussain, who has been in power since five years. Presidential elections should not be held 30 days before expiry of the term of the president in office under Article 41 (4) of the Constitution.

PTI’s presidential nominations were confirmed after its chairman Imran Khan took oath as the 22nd prime minister of the country. As per sources, the possible ministers in the federal cabinet from PTI include, Shah Mehmood Qureshi as the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Asad Umar as the Minister for Finance, Syed Fakhar Imam as the Minister for Food and Agriculture, Shireen Mazari as Defence Minister, Shafqat Mehmood as Commerce Minister and Chaudhry as Minister of Information and Broad Casting, local media reported.

Earlier, former Chief Secretary of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Mohammad Azam was appointed as Prime Minister Imran Khan's secretary.

Dr Arif Alvi has bagged victory in recently held general elections from Karachi’s NA-247 constituency, by securing 90,907 votes.
