The International Sugar Organisation (ISO) forecasts a global sugar deficit of 6.2 million tonnes in 2016/17, compared with a deficit of 2.5 million tonnes in 2015/16, according to an ISO chart presented at a conference organised by analyst Datagro. ISO Executive Director Jose Orive said declining stocks, rising consumption and increased demand for ethanol would contribute to the projection for a larger sugar deficit in 2016/17.
