Pakistan Navy on Wednesday informed Islamabad High Court (IHC) that an official under its custody was facing court martial proceedings in a sensitive issue. A single-member bench of Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui resumed hearing of the petition filed by Ms Safia Ismail, claiming that her husband Sub-Lieutenant Ehsanullah Sajjad, was taken away from his residence in Karachi by some unknown people on the evening of September 6, 2014.
The naval official informed the IHC that the charges against Sajjad were grave in nature. He said that the court martial proceedings against Sajjad were in process and he will soon be tried in the naval tribunal. He, however, assured the court that the accused would be given proper opportunity to defend himself. Petitioner's counsel Lieutenant Colonel Inamur Rahiem (Retd) said the naval authorities have allegedly detained Sajjad without lawful justification.
