Google is updating its Google Translate app by making it available to be used offline with supporting 59 languages, making it very convenient for users.

Google Translate app though could be used for translating more than 100 languages online and offline, but when used offline, the translations are phrase-based rather than machine learning-based, making it much inferior than the online translations.

Now, Google is bringing its offline Neural Machine Translation (NMT) to Google Translate app, which can now be used offline with high-quality translations of entire sentence rather than bit by bit on either of Android or iOS devices using artificial neural network, explains Google.

Google adds voice recognition for 30 languages

The app does not even require much storage space, it will only take around 35-45MB per language. Though the app can be downloaded on Android and iOS right now, but only some of the devices have got the offline translation update with global roll out to occur within weeks.

Google Translate supports 59 languages for its offline mode including Afrikaans, Albanian, Arabic, Belarusian, Bengali, Bulgarian, Catalan, Chinese, Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, Esperanto, Estonian, Filipino, Finnish, French, Galician, Georgian, German, Greek, Gujarati, Haitian, Creole, Hebrew, Hindi, Hungarian, Icelandic, Indonesian, Irish, Italian, Japanese, Jannada, Korean, Latvian, Lithuanian, Macedonian, Malay, Maltese, Marathi, Norwegian, Persian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Slovak, Slovenian, Spanish, Swahili, Swedish, Tamil, Telugu, Thai, Turkish, Ukrainian, Urdu, Vietnamese, and Welsh.
