Steps being taken to install solar street lights

ssaaaaannnKARACHI: Steps are being taken for installation of solar energy streetlights at important places and main thoroughfares in the metropolis.

This was stated by the Administrator of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), Muhammad Hussain Syed.

He was talking to the officers of the Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) on Saturday. Syed further pointed out that the use of solar energy would be enhanced gradually and apart from roads, the solar lights would also be installed in parks and playgrounds.

He pointed out that such an experiment has proved to be successful all over the world and in many of the big cities around the globe the solar energy is being utilized and especially the big cities are benefitting from this.

The Administrator said that Karachi is a big city and has the distinction of being called the city of lights and that we have to revive and maintain this status.

He informed that experimentally the solar lights would be installed this month from Bilawal Chowrangi to Bagh-i-Ibne Qasim and that gradually such lights would also be installed at the city's main thoroughfares and Bagh-i-Ibne Qasim, Benazir Bhutto Park and other parks.

Syed also asked the KESC officers to conduct technical audit to determine the precise consumption of electricity at the Civic Centre so that the wastage could be prevented.

The KESC officers assured that the technical audit would be conducted in 15 days time without any charges.
