ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court on Wednesday set deadline of one month for the government to bring former ambassador to the United States, Hussain Haqqani, back to Pakistan.

A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Mian Saqib Nisar remarked that "they would not tolerate further delay in Haqqani’s return who was an accused in the Memogate scandal."

During the course of proceedings, secretaries, interior and foreign affairs appeared before the court and informed the bench about the progress made in the case.

Meanwhile, Director General DG, Federal Investigation Authority (FIA) apprised the court that he would personally go to the United States for the case and if needed fit then he would file case in this regard.

He also submitted copies of FIR registered against former ambassador, and said judicial magistrate had issued warrants and now they would contact Interpol for issuance of the Red Warrant.

The chief justice remarked that the decision of three high court chief justices was thrown to the garbage and the court would not bear any delay in this matter.

Moreover, the chief justice observed that media should not do any commentary on the sub judice cases, adding most of people pass comments without knowing law of the land.

Subsequently, giving one month time to the federation, the apex court adjourned the further hearing till then.
