HYDERABAD: The President Sindh Abadgar Board Abdul Majeed Nizamani has demanded the government to start the wheat procurement in accordance with its own announcement from April 1.

Addressing a news conference here at Hyderabad Press Club on Wednesday, he informed that this year, the government has fixed the target of 1.4 million tons procurement of wheat and there is the need of provision of 14 million gunny bags to growers so that they could be able to bring their wheat at the procurement centres.

He informed that the growers have learnt that the provincial government has issued orders to the Food Inspectors to issue only 25 percent gunny bags to growers and grant the remaining bags to elected representatives, party office bearers, government officers and blue eyed growers.

Abdul Majeed Nizamani expressed his deep concern over such decision of the government which would deprived the growers of the province of their rights adding that the distribution of gunny bags on political grounds is great injustices with the growers.

He said that the said decision would also cause difficulties to incharges of procurement centres to achieve the procurement target as non availability of gunny bags would force the growers to sale their produce with minimum price in open market.

According to decision, the provincial government would procure wheat with Rs. 45.5 billion therefore, the facts of misappropriation and corruption could not be ruled out as the growers are still waiting the liabilities of previous years.

He demanded the Chief Justice Supreme Court and Chief Justice Sindh High Court to take notice over such expected misappropriation and corruption and issue directives to the government to do justice with the growers.

He also demanded the distribution of gunny bags at taluka level under supervision of judges with representation of the representatives of Food and Revenue Departments as well as the growers’ organizations.

He also demanded the abolition of quota of gunny bags to Senators, MNAs, MPAs and office bearers of the ruling political party adding that distribution of gunny bags should be made transparent.
