Sri Lankan shares snap 6-session losing streak on consumer, property gains

Sri Lankan shares closed higher, snapping a six-session losing streak, on Thursday as gains in consumer discretionary and real estate stocks outweighed losses in IT and energy stocks.

The CSE All-Share index settled up 0.33% at 20,880.90.

SMB Finance PLC and Waskaduwa Beach Resort PLC were the top percentage gainers on the CSE All-Share index, rising 33.33% and 13.33%, respectively.

Trading volume on the index rose to 65.4 million shares from 58.8 million shares in the previous session.

The equity market’s turnover fell to 1.43 billion rupees ($4.33 million) from 1.55 billion rupees in the previous session, according to exchange data.

Foreign investors were net sellers, offloading stocks worth 139.6 million rupees, while domestic investors were net buyers, purchasing shares worth 1.39 billion rupees, the data showed.
