KARACHI: Futures trading activity at the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) surged sharply during the last week, with the futures spread widening by 75 basis points week-on-week to 4.89 percent, compared with 4.14 percent in the preceding week.
The sharp expansion in futures activity was reflected in both traded volume and value. Futures Average Daily Turnover (ADTO) increased 189.4 percent to 601.20 million shares, from 207.72 million shares a week earlier.
In value terms, futures ADTO jumped 147 percent to Rs28.28 billion, compared with Rs11.45 billion in the previous week.
Analysts said the contrasting performance of the Readyboard and futures segments meant that while activity in the Readyboard contracted, futures trading recorded a substantial increase in both volume and value, with the futures spread also widening during the week.
