LAHORE: Pakistan Peoples’ Party Central Punjab General Secretary Syed Hassan Murtaza has said that once again an attempt is being made to benefit a specific political party in the second phase of the Azad Kashmir Assembly elections.
Addressing an emergency press conference at his camp in Rajua Sadat Chiniot, the General Secretary of the Peoples Party Central Punjab said that we have visited several polling stations in Punjab; the Election Commission is already slow.
He told the media that our candidate’s business centers in Chakwal were sealed and the DC threatened us by saying that they are from the PPP. We strongly condemn this.
Hassan Murtaza said that in Lahore, our polling agents were not allowed to sit in appropriate places. In Polling stations, PML-N voters and supporters were allowed to carry mobile phones. Our polling agents were not given this facility. Also, our candidate Abdul Qadir’s name was written as Abdul Qadir on the ballot papers of LA-34, causing his votes to be wasted. We have filed a complaint with the Election Commission. Hassan Murtaza said that the turnout in the polling stations we visited was very low. At the polling station in Chiniot, there were three votes that could not be cast, while there were no voters at the address where the votes were cast. He said that these voters come from Kashmir on the polling day and cast their votes; this is the PML-N’s method of rigging. He expressed regret over the martyrdom of Mushtaq, an activist of Azad Kashmir Acting President Latif Akbar, and said that this is another addition to the list of martyrdoms of the Pakistan People’s Party. God willing, despite these complaints, efforts are being made to hold transparent elections, but we are not getting a level playing field.
