Sale of refrigerators, deep freezers & ACs gone up by 15pc

KARACHI: The sale of refrigerators, deep freezers and air conditioners have gone up by approximately 10-15 percent on the eve of this Eid-ul-Azha and as well as souring heat as people often replace and buy new one to freeze meat of sacrificial animals.

In May this year, the deadly heat wave led to high sales of cooling device when demand outstripped supply.

Domestic appliances makers and retailers are enjoying another phase of booming sales ahead of Eid-ul-Azha as people flock markets to purchase deep freezers and refrigerators for bulk storage of sacrificial animal meat.

The retiles said it would be difficult to say how many refrigerators, deep freezers and air conditions were sold at this point in time, however the sale of these products are on rise for the last two weeks.

Contrasting views were offered by sellers, with many saying deep freezers are in high demand while others believe that refrigerators sales are going stronger than deep freezers owing to Eid and an additional demand for dowry purposes.

Prices of these items have not increased so far but in case of very high demand and slow supply retailers and wholesalers usually start charging an additional Rs3,000-4,000 on domestic appliances two to three days ahead of Eid-ul-Azha.

Usually, the sales of fridges go up ahead of Eid-ul-Azha compared to the other months of the year. But, this year, the demand for both deep fridge and large deep based refrigerators has comparatively remain low as compared to previous years among the customers due to several reasons, including the decline of purchasing power of the people’s income and unstable environment, they said.
