PPL successfully commissions well after decade-long delay

  • PPL resolves infrastructure issues for commercial viability

After remaining undeveloped for over a decade, Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL), an oil and gas exploration firm, has successfully commissioned the Faiz X-1 Deep (Basal Sand) well, located in Sanghar district, Sindh.

The E&P, a key supplier of natural gas in the country, shared the development in a notice to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) on Friday.

“We, the operator of Gambat South Block, are pleased to announce the successful commissioning of Faiz X-1 Deep (Basal Sand) well,” PPL said in a notice.

The well was drilled in 2014. However, due to the absence of nearby pipeline infrastructure, the development of the discovery could not be undertaken, leaving the project uneconomical, it said.

“Following establishment of connectivity with other wells’ pipeline and a comprehensive technical and economic re-evaluation, the Basal Sand interval was determined to be commercially viable,” said the company, which subsequently undertook well intervention and surface facility works to bring the well into production.

PPL shared that commissioning activities included isolation of deeper intervals, execution of well intervention jobs, installation of surface facilities, and construction of approximately 4.5km of feeder line to integrate the well into the existing gas gathering network for onward delivery to the Gambat South Gas Processing Facilities.

The E&P informed that the well was commissioned on 25th February 2026, and production was ramped up in stages.

“It is currently producing approximately 3.6 MMscfd of gas and 750 bpd of condensate following optimisation of operational parameters,” read the notice

As one of the largest exploration and production companies in Pakistan, PPL plays a pivotal role in exploring, prospecting, developing, and producing oil and natural gas resources.
