FAISALABAD: The University of Agriculture, Faisalabad (UAF) and Engro Fertilizers will enhance their joint effort to address real-time agrarian challenges with an aim to ensure the food security and transform agriculture into a long-term, sustainable and profitable business model.

It was agreed upon during a consultative session chaired by UAF Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Zulfiqar Ali held at the Syndicate Room with Engro delegation led by Anees Amin, GM-Agronomy whereas Engro team including Dr Syed Shahid Hussain Shah, Deputy Manager R&D; Ijaz Ahmad, Deputy Manager Regulatory Affairs; Sabit Ali Baloch, Deputy Manager operations; Imran AhmaD, R&D Officer; Saba Malik, Areeba Ghori, M Awais Paracha, Hammad Anwer, and Muhammad Manzoor attended.

From the university, UAF Director ORIC Dr Sultan Habibullah Khan, Dean Faculty of Agriculture Dr Ghulam Murtaza, Registrar Dr Asif Kamran, Director External Linkages Dr Muhammad TehseenAzhar, Dr Muhammad Naveed, DG NIFSAT Dr Issa Khan, Dr Abdul Wakil, Dr Rana Nadeem Abbas, Dr Hafiz NaeemAsghar, Dr Muhammad Aslam, Dr Burhan Ahmad, Dr Fahad Rasul and DrKhurram Zia also participated.

UAF Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Zulfiqar Ali reaffirmed the university’s commitment to tackling pressing issues such as climate change, depleting soil and water resources, declining soil health, and the diminishing interest of youth in the agriculture.

He proposed the establishment of farmer field schools to engage rural youth and promote modern, technology-driven farming practices to reduce costs of production. He stressed the need to bridge the gap between academia and industry through collaborative research and development initiatives, focusing on projects that lead to tangible products, student research support, and startup opportunities. Highlighting concerns over soil degradation, he called for urgent measures to restore soil fertility by enhancing organic matter for long-term sustainability.
