Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday held a telephone conversation with his New Zealand counterpart Christopher Luxon, during which the two leaders discussed the evolving situation in the Middle East and ongoing diplomatic efforts for peace, the Prime Minister’s Office said.

During the call, the prime minister briefed Luxon on Pakistan’s diplomatic outreach aimed at promoting de-escalation and dialogue in the region.

PM Luxon appreciated Pakistan’s constructive role, including its engagement with Washington and Tehran, and expressed support for ongoing mediation efforts.

Shehbaz thanked Luxon for his support and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to advancing peace, dialogue and stability in the region and beyond.

The two leaders also agreed to further strengthen bilateral ties and acknowledged the positive role of the Pakistani diaspora in New Zealand.

The prime minister invited Luxon to visit Pakistan, and both sides agreed to remain in close contact.

In a post on his Facebook account, Luxon wrote that he spoke to PM Shehbaz for the best way to prevent inflation is by restoring stability in the Gulf and returning safe shipping to the Strait of Hormuz as Kiwis are facing higher prices at the pump and for everyday goods.

“I thanked him for his work facilitating a ceasefire between the United States and Iran, and for Pakistan’s tireless efforts towards a longer-term peace,” he added.

The New Zealand PM said the best pathway to a sustainable solution in the Middle East is through diplomacy.
