KARACHI: Under the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme (PMYP), Information Technology (IT) training facility at the Governor House was formally launched on Saturday. The facility is aimed at to equip young people with digital skills and expand employment opportunities.
Sindh Governor Syed Muhammad Nihal Hashmi inaugurated the mega IT Centre, alongside PMYP Chairman Rana Mashood Khan and PMYP’s Sindh Coordinator Dr Fahad Shafiq and President PML-N, Sindh Bashir Memon.
PML-N Sindh Senior Vice President Ali Akber Gujar and Federal Government’s Spokesman in Sindh Rja Ansari were also present.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Governor said the programme would help train young people in modern IT skills and provide access to laptops, business loans, scholarships, jobs and sports opportunities.
“The goal is to empower youth with skills that can lead to economic independence and global employment opportunities,” he said, adding that vocational and technical training would be offered in more than 200 fields.
The trainees completing courses would receive certifications from the National Vocational and Technical Training Commission (NAVTTC), enabling them to compete in domestic and international job markets.
The Governor said the government aimed to transform Sindh into an IT hub “from Karachi to Kashmore,” and stressed the importance of education and digital skills in driving economic growth.
He also praised Pakistan’s armed forces for their role in regional peace and acknowledged efforts by the country’s leadership to promote stability, which he said was key to attracting foreign investment.
Rana Mashood said the initiative is part of broader efforts to enhance youth employability in a country where nearly 70 pc of the population is under the age of 30.
