LAHORE: An enforcement team of the Punjab Food Authority has discarded 1,300 kilograms of dead chicken meat and lodged two FIRs over forgery during ongoing operations against the food adulteration mafia.
Food safety teams also confiscated 1,920 litres of fake cold drinks, filling machines, a supplier vehicle, 780 bottles and other related materials during multiple operations. Teams recovered dead chickens from a supplier vehicle (No. SAC-4666) at Ghazi Phatak Bypass, which were being concealed for supply to the market.
The action was taken on the directions of PFA Director General Muhammad Asim Javaid to ensure the provision of safe food, which is the basic right of every individual.
The DG said that the PFA uncovered a unit involved in the production of fake cold drinks of renowned brands in Wahga Town. During the raid, fake labels, caps, raw materials and finished products were seized.
It was revealed that workers were illegally manufacturing beverages of famous brands using unfiltered water under poor hygienic conditions, while heavy insect infestation was also observed at the premises.
He said that the food business operators failed to present essential sales records and required documentation. He said that the counterfeit mafia is deceiving consumers by selling substandard and fake products under the name of original brands, posing a serious threat to public health.
He further stated that there is no place in Punjab for those endangering public health for the sake of higher profits.
