NDMA warns of flash floods threats in KP until Sunday

  • Says flash flooding expected in parts of KP due to moderate to heavy rainfall
Published Updated

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) on Friday issued a flash flood warning for various parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) this weekend.

“Flash flooding is expected in parts of KP, from April 3 to 5, due to moderate to heavy rainfall associated with an active westerly weather system,” the NDMA said.

According to the disaster management authority, the districts likely to be affected include Bannu, Tank, Lakki Marwat, Dera Ismail Khan, North and South Waziristan, Kurram, Karak, Orakzai, Kohat, Cherat, Mardan, Nowshera, Peshawar, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Swabi, Charsadda, Dir, Chitral, Swat, Mohmand and Bajaur.

Flash flooding is likely in local streams, nullahs, and tributaries across southern, central, and upper KP, with urban flooding also possible in low-lying areas of Peshawar, Nowshera, Charsadda, Mardan, and adjoining districts, it added.

At least 25 people have been killed and dozens injured in rain-related incidents in KP since March 25, authorities said on Thursday.

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) reported widespread damage, with 77 houses affected, including 33 destroyed. The worst-hit districts include Kohat, Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan, and Karak.

Meanwhile, Rescue 1122 teams have been deployed to the affected regions, providing emergency assistance, including medical aid and temporary shelter to displaced families. Efforts are ongoing to clear debris and restore access to remote areas cut off by the rains, the PDMA said.
