Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif was informed on Wednesday that a special committee formed to promote exports with Gulf countries has approved 40 food items for export.

This was revealed during meeting chaired by the PM regarding the supply of food items to Gulf states and matters related to Pakistan’s ports and maritime operations in the context of the current regional situation.

A briefing was given on the measures taken regarding the export of essential goods to Gulf countries, and was informed that the food items approved included rice, edible oil, sugar, meat, poultry, dried milk, dairy products, fruits, vegetables.

The meeting was also briefed that no additional charges will be imposed on the export of vegetables, fruits, and meat, while air and sea open routes will be used for the export of food items.

The PM expressed satisfaction over the strategy and progress made regarding the supply of food items to Gulf countries and appreciated the performance of the relevant departments and officials.

He directed that all relevant departments should remain in close contact with Gulf countries regarding the provision of required food items and their food security.

PM Shehbaz directed that exports of surplus food items available in the country to Gulf countries should be expedited without affecting domestic food requirements. He further said that complete monitoring of demand and supply of food items for domestic needs should be ensured.

“Any delay in decision-making at the level of government institutions is unacceptable,” the PM was quoted as saying.

The PM also directed to prepare a comprehensive plan to increase flight operations at Karachi, Gwadar, and other major international airports of Pakistan.
