LAHORE: Inspector General Police Punjab Abdul Kareem said on the occasion of International Women’s Day that Punjab Police is the strongest advocate of gender equality and salutes the brave mothers, sisters and daughters of martyrs and ghazis.

IG Punjab said that sexual harassment, rape, violence and exploitation against women are our red line and a zero tolerance policy is being implemented against these crimes.

IG Punjab said that protection of women’s rights and the immediate provision of justice while upholding their dignity is the top priority of Punjab Police. We reaffirm our resolve to continue the strong struggle against violence, rape and other crimes against women. He said that immediate registration of FIRs in crimes against women and the earliest possible arrest of the accused is being ensured.

Abdul Kareem further said that lady police officers and officials are playing an outstanding role alongside men in law and order, crime control and community policing. Women serving in Punjab Police are a proud part of the force.

IG Punjab said that for the welfare of women police personnel, various welfare initiatives have been taken, including Safe Cities Women Hostels equipped with day care centres, mess, library and game areas. Driving training centres for women, Tahaffuz Markaz, Tahaffuz Manzil Foster Home, Virtual Women Police Stations, Women Enclaves and Anti Women Harassment and Violence Cells have also been established.

He said that facilities such as the Women Safety App, panic button and Helpline 15 have been provided for women facing social injustice.
