KARACHI: Sindh Minister for Local Government, Housing and Town Planning, Syed Nasir Hussain Shah reassured that resolving the issues of the minority community is among the top priorities of the Sindh Government and that serving the public without discrimination is a fundamental manifesto of the Pakistan Peoples’ Party.

He expressed these views during a meeting with a minority delegation of Town and City Councillors affiliated with PPP, which was led by Lal Chand Ukhrani, President of PPP Minority Wing Sindh. Mayor of Sukkur Arslan Sheikh and Member of Sindh Assembly Asif Musa were also present.

During the meeting, minority representatives gave a detailed briefing on the issues facing in their respective areas, particularly regarding water supply, improvement of the sewerage and sanitation system, construction and repair of roads and streets, and installation of streetlights. They also complained about a lack of cooperation from some town chairmen.

The delegation demanded that minority councillors be empowered at the local government level and that development funds be distributed fairly.

Taking immediate notice of the issues, the Minister issued on-the-spot telephonic instructions to the relevant town chairmen and made it clear that areas with minority populations will not be neglected in development schemes. He directed all councillors to submit priority lists of ongoing and proposed development projects in their areas to the Local Government Department so that funds could be released in phases.

Syed Nasir Hussain said that priority would be given to improving infrastructure around churches, temples, and gurdwaras, ensuring effective drainage systems, and providing security-related facilities to promote religious harmony and interfaith tolerance.

For recruitment on government jobs, the transparent procedures set by the government must be followed, and in case of any complaints, direct contact should be made with the Local Government Department.

The Minister said that the Sindh Government will continue practical steps to provide equal facilities to all citizens of the province and will ensure lasting solutions to issues through coordinated engagement with local government representatives.
