Alleged violation of election laws: ECP to hear cases against four PTI lawmakers today
ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) is scheduled to hear today (Tuesday), the respective cases against four lawmakers from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)— comprising Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sohail Afridi, former CM KP Ali Amin Gandapur, a minister, and a special assistant in the KP government— over alleged violation of the related election laws.
The ECP’s cause list for all the four cases revealed that the electoral entity would hear separate cases against KP Housing Minister Dr Amjad Ali, and Special Assistant to the CM on Information Shafi Ullah Jan, apart from Afridi and Gandapur, today.
The housing minister’s case is based on the notice taken by the ECP over alleged discrepancies in his wealth statement submitted to the ECP for fiscal year 2023-24. He faces another case in the ECP, also scheduled for hearing today, on a petition moved by one Aziz Ullah, seeking his disqualification over allegedly controversial remarks regarding terrorism in the country.
The case against the CM’s special assistant is based on a notice taken by the ECP over his statement aired on a YouTube channel that was allegedly critical of the ECP in relation to the by-election on National Assembly’s seat NA-18 Haripur that was held on November 23 last year.
