KARACHI: Saeed Ghani, Sindh Minister for Labour, Manpower and Social Security, and President PPP Karachi Division, criticising the opposition parties for their cheap politics, said PPP is not accountable to the opposition but to the people of the province, and the heavy mandate to the party in the last general and local government elects reflected their trust on the government’s policies and actions.
“When the time has come, the people have expressed trust on us,” he claimed, adding that the Pakistan Peoples’ Party was elected by the people and entrusted with authority to serve them.
The Minister was speaking at the concluding ceremony of 10-day flower exhibition organized by the Town Municipal Corporation, Korangi, at the Eidgah Ground on Sunday. He said that at present, such flower exhibitions have been organized all over the city to welcome the spring, which has become a healthy entertainment for the citizens. The Town Municipal Corporation, Korangi, keeps organizing such events throughout the year, which deserves appreciation.
Saeed Ghani pledged that the local government representatives of the Pakistan Peoples’ Party will continue serving the people of Karachi to the best possible level despite many challenges. Whether it is the Mayor, Town Chairmen, UC Chairmen or other elected representatives of the city, they are delivering to the people.
Saeed Ghani said that since 2002 the vote bank of PPP in the province including Karachi has increased in the general and local government elections. He was confident that in the next Local Government elections, which are scheduled to be held within a year, the PPP will get more votes from the city; the number of towns under PPP chairmen, which are currently 13, will increase. The number of UCs won by the party, which is 104, will increase and the City Mayor of PPP will be elected next time with more votes and seats.
He contended that those who cannot even become councillors today are the Federal Ministers. In the past, Karachi was defamed all over the world and the bright face of Karachi had been distorted because of the people who promoted hatred. “We have started eliminating hatred and sharing love in this city. We will move forward under the leadership of Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari with this message of love,” he said, adding that the PPP believed that Karachi belonged to all those who live in.
