LAHORE: Italian Ambassador to Pakistan Marilina Armellin as well as British Embassy Political Counselor Mark Bailey and Political Officer Cormick separately called on Foreign Affairs expert Muhammad Mehdi at his residence, where discussions focused on Lahore’s rich historical heritage, cultural vibrancy and the strong ties between Pakistan and Europe.

Marilina Armellin praised Lahore as a city of lively hearts, glowing with thousands of years of history and culture. Drawing a parallel between Rome and Lahore, she said historic cities possess a unique charm as they keep their people deeply connected to their past. She noted that cultural activities such as Basant celebrations, book fair and literary conferences were adding vibrant colours to the city’s atmosphere.

Thanking the ambassador for her visit, Chairman Institute of International Relations & Muhammad Mehdi said Pakistan and Italy enjoy brotherly relations, adding that a large Pakistani community in Italy is actively contributing to the country’s national life.

He said both countries share similar views on several international issues and described Italy as a strong friend of Pakistan within the European Union.

Meanwhile, the British diplomats echoed similar sentiments, describing Lahore as a historic and culturally rich city whose traditions continue to bind its people to their heritage. They said ongoing cultural events, including Basant, book fairs and literary gatherings, were reflecting the city’s diverse colours.

Muhammad Mehdi said Pakistan and the United Kingdom maintain close and friendly ties, noting that a significant number of Pakistanis living in England are playing an important role in its national life. He added that both countries hold similar positions on many international issues and termed the UK a strong friend of Pakistan.
