Terrorism incidents in Balochistan: Punjab PA passes condemnation resolution

LAHORE: The Punjab Assembly on Tuesday unanimously passed a condemnation resolution regarding the terrorism incident in Balochistan. The resolution, which was passed in the absence of the opposition, expressed deep condolences to the families of the martyrs and demanded that strict action be taken against the perpetrators of the attack.

The session of the Punjab Assembly commenced on Tuesday, though it began after a delay of two hours and twenty minutes from its originally scheduled time. The proceedings were chaired by Samia Allah Khan, who served as the Panel of Chairperson for the day.

The session opened with the question hour, during which questions pertaining to the Energy Department were tabled and discussed. Parliamentary Secretary for Energy Mansoor Aazam addressed the queries raised by the assembly members. However, attendance during the session was notably low. Only 28 members were present on the government benches, while the opposition benches remained entirely vacant throughout the proceedings.

Assembly member Azma Kardar raised an important concern during the session, pointing out that although land records in Punjab have been computerised, they contain a significant number of errors. She noted that in some cases, the recorded land area is less than what individuals actually own, while in others, account numbers have been incorrectly entered. Parliamentary Secretary Khalid Mahmood Ranjha acknowledged the shortcomings in the digitised records and assured the assembly that, as the system is still relatively new, the errors would be rectified over time.

During the newscast segment of the session, Rana Muhammad Arshad, chief whip of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, paid tribute to the chief minister of Punjab for the efforts and steps taken to restore the Basant festival.
