LAHORE: The Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry has taken a significant and commendable step to promote public safety and traffic awareness during the Basant festival by setting up special camps in the markets of Hall Road and Badami Bagh.

Under this initiative, free safety equipment including helmets, side mirrors, and safety rods was distributed to citizens to reduce potential risks related to kite flying and traffic during Basant.

On this occasion, LCCI President Faheem Ur Rehman Saigol, Senior Vice President Tanveer Ahmed Sheikh, Vice President Khurram Lodhi, former President Muhammad Ali Mian, Executive Committee members Rana Nisar, Umar Sarfraz, Aamir Ali, and Ahad Ameen Malik were present. President of Hall Road traders, including President Babar Mahmood, Zeeshan Sohail Malik, Asim Inam Magoon, Asfand Yar, and other business leaders, also participated. The participants termed the LCCI initiative timely and effective for public welfare.

Speaking at the event, LCCI President Faheem Ur Rehman Saigol said that while Basant is a cultural festival, the protection of lives and property is the top priority. He recalled that in the past, careless behaviour, use of unsafe kite strings, and violations of traffic rules had resulted in the loss of precious lives. To prevent such incidents, collective responsibility and practical measures are essential. Keeping this in view, LCCI has launched an awareness and safety equipment distribution campaign in major markets of the city.

He further said that wearing a helmet can be the difference between life and death for motorcyclists, while side mirrors and safety rods help reduce traffic accidents and protect citizens from dangerous kite strings during Basant. LCCI wants traders and citizens to work together to promote a safe, responsible, and positive Basant.

Senior Vice President Tanveer Ahmed Sheikh said that this initiative is not a one-day activity but part of a broader campaign to build social awareness. He emphasized that the business community must play its role alongside the government for the betterment of society. Vice President Khurram Lodhi said that issues like public safety and traffic safety require continuous efforts, and LCCI will continue such initiatives in the future.

Former President Muhammad Ali Mian and Executive Committee members also appreciated the campaign, stating that LCCI has always played a leading role not only in industry and trade but also in fulfilling its social responsibilities. Traders from Hall Road and Badami Bagh thanked LCCI and said the initiative would help raise awareness among citizens and significantly reduce accidents during Basant.
