KARACHI: The customs staff posted at Jinnah International Airport (JIAP) on Friday recovered around 1,185 grams of gold jewellery and commercial quantity of cosmetics, perfumes and hand bags worth Rs 58 million from a passenger arrived from United States.
According to the details, the customs staff based on profiling and suspicion diverted a passenger en route from USA via Middle Eastern airline to red channel from the green channel.
The scanning machine indicated the presence of commercial quantity of cosmetics, perfumes, bags and gold jewellery.
The passenger was later moved to examination counter, wherein the physical examination of baggage of passenger resulted into recovery of gold jewellery and commercial quantity of cosmetics, perfumes and handbags.
The jewellery was verified as gold jewellery and the weight is around 1,185 grams, FBR said.
The value of the seized goods is estimated to be Rs 58 million approx.
Consequent upon the recovery, a case has been registered and further investigation is under way.
