Partly Facetious: The focus is on the dolphin, blind or not, but on the ball
“I can’t understand the choice of a statue of a dolphin playing with a ball on Constitution Avenue. I mean, Islamabad is a land locked city and we have no dolphins.”
“For your information Pakistan is home to the rarest most endangered dolphin of all – fresh water dolphin.”
“You kidding!”
“No, granted that there are some other countries that have fresh water dolphins – China, South American countries, Myanmar and…”
“Which province in Pakistan?”
“Oh, for Pete’s sake.”
“If it’s not in Punjab, then I have it on good authority that Punjab is going to take appropriate measures to breed them.”
“Don’t be facetious, they are in the Indus River basin and are known as blind dolphins.”
“Hmmmmm.”
“What?”
“We don’t like imperfections in Punjab. Are they operable, I mean, can we give them their sight and…”
“Stop.”
“I am sure the dolphin statue on Constitution Avenue has sight. Do you reckon they were imported from Myanmar – I mean their Minister was here recently perhaps to deliver a pair of Irrawaddy dolphins?”
“Dear Lord.”
“Well it’s a possibility, anyway Chairman Pakistan Cricket Board ordered the shut-down of two roads into Constitution Avenue for now going on to the third month, and it is jamming traffic massively, but now I know why he did it: for those select who work on Constitution Avenue to view and admire the statue of the dolphin…”
“I see.”
“I am glad you finally agree.”
“No, I don’t think the focus is on the dolphin, blind or not, but on the ball. It’s a cricket ball and…”
“It isn’t, it’s a beach ball.”
“Hmm, he is a smart man, I reckon some readjustment of the statue is imminent.”
