ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Denmark have agreed to deepen parliamentary engagement to support stronger bilateral cooperation, with a renewed focus on trade and investment linkages, education and skills development, and diaspora-related matters, during the first briefing session of the Pakistan–Denmark Parliamentary Friendship Group (PFG) on Thursday.

The session was convened by Ch Muhammad Shahbaz Babar, MNA, who underlined that parliamentary diplomacy can serve as an effective instrument to complement government-to-government relations.

He said Parliamentary Friendship Groups play a key role in promoting constructive dialogue, addressing mutual perceptions, and strengthening people-to-people contacts.The meeting was attended by Nadeem Abbas, Syed Raza Ali Gillani, Rana Iradat Sharif Khan, Muhammad Khan Daha, Sanjay Perwani, Dr Shazia Sobia Aslam Soomro, Ms Saba Talpur and Ms Nikhat Shakeel Khan.

The Danish Ambassador provided an overview of Pakistan–Denmark bilateral relations, outlining the broader diplomatic context, the trajectory of engagement, and existing areas of cooperation.

During the discussion, members emphasized the need for business-to-business matchmaking to create new opportunities for trade and investment. They also highlighted expanding collaboration in education, innovation, and skills development, alongside promoting cultural exchanges and joint initiatives to commemorate shared milestones.

Participants further discussed issues related to diaspora welfare, labour mobility, and community perceptions, stressing the importance of coordinated efforts to strengthen mutual understanding.

The session concluded with a shared view that Pakistan–Denmark relations are moving in a positive direction, and that sustained parliamentary engagement can play a facilitative role in broadening sectoral cooperation and advancing long-term bilateral objectives.
