ISLAMABAD: A local court on Saturday, again issued arrest warrants for human rights lawyer Imaan Zainab Mazari and her husband, Advocate Hadi Ali Chattha in controversial tweet case after authorities failed to execute the previous warrants.

Additional District and Sessions Judge Muhammad Afzal Majoka, while hearing a case registered under Sections 9, 10, 11 and 26-A of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA), issued warrants for the couple for the third time and directed Deputy Inspector General (DIG) operations Muhammad Jawad Tariq and Director General (DG) National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) to arrest the accused and produce them before the court during the next hearing to be held on Monday.

During the hearing prosecutor Rana Usman appeared before the court. The court sought a report from the NCCIA regarding the compliance of previous warrants. A day earlier, the court had issued arrest warrants for Iman Mazari and Hadi Ali Chattha. The court initially adjourned the hearing until 9:00 am. After the break, the hearing resumed. The NCCIA informed the court that the arrest warrants could not be executed.

During the proceedings, advocate Riasat Ali Azad made an oral request for suspension of the court’s decision. However, Judge Afzal Majoka observed that the court could not suspend an order cancelling bail.

The court reissued arrest warrants for the couple and directed the NCCIA and the DIG operations to arrest the accused and produce them before the court. The judge further stated that the questionnaire under Section 342 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) had already been provided to advocate Ali Azad.

Earlier, during the subsequent proceedings Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Legal Naeem, and advocate Ali Azad appeared before the court.

Advocate Ali Azad informed the court that Iman Mazari and Hadi Ali Chattha wanted to surrender before the court and presented themselves.
