LAHORE: Tehreek Tahaffuz-e-Ain Pakistan (TTAP) Chairman Mahmood Khan Achakzai said on Friday that establishment must stay within its own framework; if it wants to engage in politics it should leave its responsibilities and contest elections.
Addressing a press conference here, he said that no country can survive without an army and intelligence agencies, but they should remain within their constitutionally defined role; any interference is unacceptable.
He rejected the argument that the TTAP leaders are security risk, saying the security risk is the one who tampers with the constitution.
When asked about ‘backdoor channel dialogue’ or visiting PML-N Quaid Nawaz Sharif, he averred that they are not so naive as to reveal their backdoor channel contacts to the press. “However, I promise you that we will not compromise at the expense of Pakistan and the parliament,” he added, adding that for the country to function properly, it must embrace true democracy. “Pakistan has failed to create effective leadership, and the people are not to blame for this crisis.”
