LAHORE: The Punjab Revenue Authority (PRA) is considering a proposal to establish 100 new sectors aimed at expanding the tax net and strengthening its revenue base.
The proposal was discussed in a meeting chaired by PRA Chairman Moazzam Iqbal Sipra, convened to review revenue targets. During the meeting, participants evaluated plans for the creation of the new sectors within the PRA, along with the induction of additional officers, to further broaden the tax base.
The Chairman commended PRA officers for achieving a record revenue collection of Rs. 149.5 billion during the first half of the current financial year, reflecting a 35 percent increase compared to the same period last year. It was also decided to launch structured training programmes for enforcement officers to enhance their professional skills and efficiency.
Chairman Sipra stated that the proposed amendments to PRA laws have led to a noticeable increase in tax revenues. He further said that support from other government departments would be sought to ensure greater transparency and sustainable growth in tax collection. He added that all necessary reforms would be implemented to achieve higher revenue targets in the second half of the financial year.
