PM condemns attempted attack on Putin’s residence, condoles Khaleda’s death

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday strongly condemned the reported attack on Russian President Vladimir Putin’s residence, calling it a serious threat to global peace and stability, especially at a time when peace negotiations are in progress.

In a post on X, the prime minister described the incident as a “heinous act” that endangers security and stability worldwide. He stressed that such actions undermine ongoing efforts aimed at fostering peace.

PM Sharif expressed Pakistan’s full solidarity with President Putin, the Russian government, and the people of Russia. “We reaffirm our steadfast rejection of all forms of violence and any attempts to disrupt security or threaten peace,” he added.

Russia has accused Ukraine of launching an attack on Putin’s residence in the Novgorod region, using 91 long-range drones on December 28-29.

In a separate statement on X, PM Sharif expressed his condolences over the death of Khaleda Zia, the former prime minister of Bangladesh.

He praised her “lifelong service” to the nation and her contributions to its development, adding, “Begum Zia was a committed friend of Pakistan.”

He offered his thoughts and prayers to the people of Bangladesh during this difficult time and extended his condolences to Khaleda Zia’s family and loved ones. “May Allah bless her soul,” he concluded.
