By-poll on NA-18 Haripur: ECP reschedules case against KP CM, Omar till next week

ISLAMABAD: The electoral body has rescheduled till Wednesday (next week) a case against Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sohail Afridi and Shehar Naz, Omar Ayub Khan, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)-backed candidate for the recently held by-election on the National Assembly’s seat NA-18 Haripur, due to the unavailability of the bench hearing this case.

The case was scheduled to be heard today (Tuesday).

The delisting notice issued by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), Monday, stated that the case has been fixed for hearing on December 24.

In this context, notices have been issued to KP CM, Babar Nawaz Khan, the petitioner and returned candidate for NA-18 Haripur, and Shehar Naz Omar Ayub, the wife of former NA opposition leader Omar Ayub Khan.

The NA-18 seat had fallen vacant following Omar’s disqualification at the hands of an anti-terrorism court (ATC) in a case registered in connection with the May 9th riots.

Before that, the case hearing of December 4 was rescheduled to December 10 due to the unavailability of the ECP bench.
