ISLAMABAD: The capital city witnessed over 57 cases of various crimes during the past week, including carjacking, robbery, dacoity, street crime, and murder.

According to data compiled by Business Recorder, a total of 57 criminal cases were reported at different police stations across Islamabad. These included 33 cases of carjacking, 12 incidents of street crime involving the snatching of purses and mobile phones at gunpoint, 10 cases of robbery, and two cases of murder. In these incidents, the city’s residents were deprived of valuables worth millions of rupees.

Several police jurisdictions have emerged as crime hotspots, notably Industrial Area, Khanna, Noon, Kohsar, Margalla, and Lohi Bher. Residents of these areas have expressed serious concerns over the rising crime rate and urged police authorities to take stringent action against criminal gangs.

During the same period, a tragic road accident in the jurisdiction of Khanna Police Station claimed the life of a Capital Development Authority (CDA) sanitation worker. According to eyewitnesses, two speeding vehicles were racing each other when the drivers lost control due to excessive speed. Both vehicles veered off the road and ran over the CDA worker, who died on the spot while performing his duties along the road.

Police officials confirmed that the accident occurred due to reckless driving and over speeding. A search operation has been launched to trace the drivers involved, while further investigations are underway.
