ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday lauded the leadership of Chief of Army Staff, Field Marshal, and Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), Syed Asim Munir, hailing his “pivotal” role in advancing the nation’s reform agenda and driving its economic resurgence.

In a carefully worded statement, Sharif underscored Gen Munir’s leadership as a cornerstone in navigating the country through an exceptionally turbulent economic period.

“Gen Munir’s steadfast leadership within the military and the wider defence establishment has been nothing short of instrumental in guiding Pakistan through critical reforms, ensuring their successful implementation,” the Prime Minister asserted.

Sharif also highlighted the significant international validation Pakistan recently received, with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) endorsing the country’s economic policies. The IMF’s commendation, he emphasised, stands as a testament to the government’s efforts to stabilise the national economy.

“The IMF’s approval speaks volumes about the commitment and resilience of our economic team,” he remarked. “The endorsement is a direct reflection of the tireless efforts of our leadership, particularly within the Ministry of Finance, which has worked relentlessly to secure Pakistan’s fiscal stability.”

Sharif was also quick to point out the recent financial disbursement from the IMF, describing it as an unequivocal signal that Pakistan is on the right track towards long-term economic prosperity. “This financial boost confirms that the reforms we have put in place are the right ones, and the path we are following is the right one,” he noted.

Reflecting on the nation’s rocky economic journey, the Prime Minister acknowledged the severe challenges faced during a time when Pakistan was perilously close to default. “Achieving stability was no small feat,” he said. “It required sacrifices from all corners – political parties, the government, and, most importantly, the people. But together, we turned the impossible into reality.”

The Prime Minister expressed growing optimism that Pakistan’s ongoing economic reforms, coupled with bold digitalisation initiatives, have set the nation on a path to becoming a beacon of success on the global stage. “Our journey has already inspired others, and soon, Pakistan’s dream of sustainable economic growth will be realised,” he declared.

He concluded with a strong affirmation of his government’s resolve, vowing to continue working tirelessly until Pakistan achieves full economic independence.

“The day is not far off when Pakistan will stand free from the burden of external debts and emerge as a self-sufficient economic powerhouse,” he maintained. “As the servant of Pakistan, I remain unwavering in my commitment to the well-being of our people,” he declared. “I will not rest until we break free from the shackles of external debt and secure a prosperous future for this nation.”
