ISLAMABAD: The government has formally initiated the extradition process for former special assistant to the prime minister and PTI leader Mirza Shahzad Akbar, as well as Major Adil Raja (retired), seeking their return from the United Kingdom to face various cases in Pakistan.
Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi handed over the extradition documents to British High Commissioner Jane Marriott during a meeting on Thursday, stressing that both individuals are wanted in Pakistan and should be repatriated.
According to an official statement, the talks focused on bilateral relations, security cooperation, and other matters of mutual interest. The two sides also discussed the repatriation of Pakistani nationals residing illegally in the UK.
Naqvi noted that while Pakistan upholds freedom of expression, the spread of fake news poses a global challenge. He said no state can permit its citizens abroad to malign national institutions and welcomed the UK’s cooperation in addressing anti-Pakistan propaganda.
The Ministry of Interior, working through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has begun the formal extradition procedures for both men. Federal Secretary Interior Muhammad Khurram Agha and other senior officials were also present at the meeting.
