Kyrgyz president begins two-day visit to Pakistan

Kyrgyzstan’s President Sadyr Japarov arrived in Islamabad on Wednesday for a two-day official visit, receiving a warm welcome from Pakistan’s top leadership at Nur Khan Airbase.
President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif jointly received the visiting leader, who was also accorded a 21-gun salute. Federal ministers and senior officials were present at the airbase.
Children in traditional attire presented flowers to President Japarov as he exchanged brief, cordial remarks with the Pakistani leadership.
According to the Foreign Office, the last presidential visit from the Kyrgyz Republic took place in January 2005. It said the latest visit reflects the brotherly ties between the two countries, rooted in shared history, faith and aspirations for peace and prosperity in Central and South Asia.
The FO added that the visit is expected to impart fresh momentum to bilateral cooperation and strengthen collaboration at regional and multilateral forums. The Kyrgyz president is accompanied by a high-level delegation comprising senior cabinet members, officials and business leaders.
President Japarov will hold meetings with President Zardari and Prime Minister Sharif, followed by delegation-level talks. Officials say the two sides will review the full spectrum of bilateral relations and explore new avenues of cooperation in trade, energy, defence, education, people-to-people exchanges and regional connectivity.
The Kyrgyz leader will also address the Pakistan-Kyrgyzstan Business Forum in Islamabad.
Sources told Business Recorder that Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan are set to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on cooperation in the energy sector. Ministers from both countries will sign the pact to enhance collaboration in the power sector.
On November 29, 2025, the federal cabinet approved a summary from the Power Division titled “MoU between the Ministry of Energy of the Kyrgyz Republic and the Ministry of Energy of Pakistan in the field of energy sector” through circulation.
