ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan are all set to sign Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on cooperation in energy during the two-day visit of Kyrgyz President Sadyr Nurgojo uulu Japarov starting from Wednesday (Dec 3), well-informed sources told Business Recorder.
The ministers of the two countries will sign the pact aimed at enhancing bilateral cooperation in power sector.
On November 29, 2205, the federal cabinet approved a summary of Power Division titled “MoU between the Ministry of Energy of the Kyrgyz Republic and the Ministry of Energy of Pakistan in the field of energy sector” through circulation.

According to sources, Minister for Energy of the Kyrgyz Republic is also expected to hold a bilateral meeting with his Pakistani counterpart, Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari.
Key areas of cooperation in energy sector are as follows; (i) CASA-1000 Project: This is a major regional initiative through which Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan will sell surplus hydroelectric power to Pakistan and Afghanistan during the summer months. Pakistan is actively pursuing its completion to help meet its energy demands; (ii) proposed Trilateral Transmission Line: Both countries are exploring Pakistan’s participation in a strategic 500-kilovolt transmission line that would establish a Kyrgyzstan-China-Pakistan electricity grid via the Torugart–XUAR–Gilgit-Baltistan route; (iii) renewable energy and investment: Pakistan has invited Kyrgyz investors to explore opportunities and joint ventures in its renewable energy sector. Both sides have expressed willingness to collaborate on clean energy development; and (iv) institutional collaboration: Cooperation also extends to technical partnerships between relevant institutions, such as exploring collaboration between the Hydrocarbon Development Institute of Pakistan and the Kyrgyz State Technical University.
Recent high-level meetings, including the fifth session of the Pakistan-Kyrgyzstan Inter-Governmental Commission in July 2025, have led to several agreements and discussions aimed at deepening energy ties. Both nations agreed to explore electricity imports and collaboration in mining and hydrocarbons.
