ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari has summoned a joint session of Parliament today (Tuesday) at 11:00 a.m., marking the first such sitting in nearly nine months.
According to parliamentary sources, several key legislative proposals are expected to come up for consideration and passage. These include the Protection of Journalists and Media Professionals (Amendment) Bill, 2025, the National Commission for Minorities Bill, 2025, and the Pakistan Animal Science Council Bill, 2024. All three are slated to be tabled during the session.
Under constitutional procedure, bills placed before a joint sitting can be passed by a simple majority — that is, fifty percent of the total members present plus one. A formal notification announcing the session has already been issued by the National Assembly Secretariat.
Political analysts note that the sitting carries added significance due to the prolonged hiatus since the last joint session and the prevailing political climate. The gathering is expected to draw heightened public and media attention, particularly because of scheduled addresses by key political leaders, including Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman.
With major legislation on the agenda and prominent leaders set to speak, today’s joint session is poised to influence the trajectory of parliamentary business in the weeks ahead.
